Wild Chamomile

i refuse to be a victim

of my one beautiful,

fleeting life.

i refuse to stay angry and bitter

as they would like me to.

i will not let my life

roll away as i watch it;

wishing

hoping

praying

someone else

would catch it for me.

no,

i will lie awake in a field of

wild chamomile

listening to the wisdom of the trees,

who have never once thought to

pity themselves;

the simple, ancient wisdom of

generosity, rooting, and

finding light against

all odds.

no wonder their ways live ever on.
